Project Brief
The City of Cape Town tasked me with designing a comprehensive and user-friendly layout for their “Council Overview Handbook.” This handbook serves as an orientation guide, offering key information about the municipality, including its structure, finances, service delivery, and strategic priorities. The design needed to convey professionalism and accessibility while adhering to the City’s branding standards.
Design Solution
To fulfil this brief, I created a layout that balances functionality with aesthetic appeal:
- Typography: Selected a clean sans-serif typeface for clarity and professionalism, ensuring readability across print and digital formats.
- Colour Palette: Applied the City of Cape Town’s official colours to maintain brand consistency, complemented by neutral tones to highlight content sections.
- Visual Hierarchy: Designed with a clear hierarchy to guide readers seamlessly through the document, utilising headings, subheadings, and bullet points.
- Data Presentation: Developed custom charts, tables, and infographics to present complex data in a simplified and engaging manner.
- Imagery: Incorporated high-quality images of Cape Town landmarks and municipal activities to add visual interest and contextual relevance.
- Interactive Features (Digital Version): Added hyperlinks and an interactive table of contents to enhance navigation and usability for digital readers.
Outcome
The final design successfully communicated the City’s vision and operations in a clear and engaging manner. It was well-received for its professional look, user-friendly structure, and the effective presentation of detailed information. This project showcases my ability to distil complex content into a visually compelling format that aligns with client expectations.
